Product Description Exceptional performance meets extreme durability - the DSC-TX5 from Sony. Not only does this Cyber-shot digital camera's 1/2.4" Exmor R CMOS sensor serve up stunning 10.2-megapixel images, but its waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, and freeze-proof construction delivers incredible ruggedness. While a 3.0" LCD display offers great clarity for composition and touchscreen control, a variety of Intelligent AUTO modes produce optimal results under various shooting conditions. Take expansive panoramas with iSweep Panorama mode or record HD video in 720p resolution.

Great Camera September 9, 2010 shay i bought this camera about 4 months ago. im rough on cameras and go through them pretty quick. the fact that this is a rugged camera pretty much was the selling point for me as well as it being water proof.
the camera has been the best i have ever owned. i have used it many times in my inground pool with no problems. it takes great quality pictures in the water and out of the water. the video is awesome as well. overall i am very pleased and hope it continues to hold up for a long time.
only complaint i had to the seller was i ordered a black camera and recieved a silver one. not that big a deal and i really didnt have time to send it back before i needed to use it. so i just kept the silver one. .
Great camera September 6, 2010 jermwhl (San Diego, CA) Bought this camera as a replacement for the Olympus camera that is waterproof. Great decision on my part. The picture quality is so much better. While the Olympus looks more rugged, I feel that the Sony will be a lasting product as well. The Olympus' waterproofing failed after a year, this Sony has very little that I can see where it would fail. The quality of the camera seems well designed. The drop proof portion I would not be willing to test on purpose, but I don't really like "drop testing" things. If it lives up to that, I would be that much happier. Photo quality, both in water and out are great, in my opinion. Video underwater is amazing too. I couldn't believe how crisp the video was. No regrets with this camera. Battery life is a bit short, agree with other reviews about getting a spare battery.
Wait, it's also waterproof? September 2, 2010 Frank Whipping this little camera out of your pocket is quite easy, when it's smaller than some cellphones.
Then tapping on the touchscreen to get what you want gets the fun going. Then when you dunk it under water, the people, they excite.
Reasons why I picked this one over the waterproof lumix ts2, and the others like the pentax optio series:
* It doesn't look like a waterproof camera
* It still has a slider to protect the lens (unlike the lumix)
* It has a cmos sensor, re-designed for the best low light performance in a camera that small
* HD video
Those are just the reasons why it stuck out as the winner to me (It took me a week of back and forth analyses)
CONS! Always cons!
* Battery life is mediocre. you'll get through a day's worth of shooting, barely (about 250 pix+some short vids for me in one day, dead battery)
* The slider will open in your pocket sometimes, but that's much easier to deal with than a lens extruding
* I've had the camera for about a month, and the battery indicator is burning into the lcd. tisk tisk sony.
* touch screen is hard to see in bright areas.
With those cons mentioned, i wouldn't recommend buying this camera until it drops below it's msrp by a bit, otherwise, this is the waterproof camera to go with.

Fantastic camera August 27, 2010 K. A. Swenson II (Milwaukee, WI United States) I bought this camera for fly fishing, more specifically a trip to Montana, and then for continued use as the family trip point and click. I can say that I was very impressed with this little Sony the entire time. This camera is not only small but durable and waterproof. This camera was my constant companion through out the trip and it never disappointed.
The panoramic option is extremely easy to use, just stand in one spot and rotate 180 degrees and it puts the picture together no problem. The auto option is extremely versatile, it can go from close ups (less than an inch from the subject) to face recognition portraits in a flash. It is rugged as well; I put the camera through the paces, one to four feet underwater in 50-60 degree rivers for up to 45 seconds. It lived in the pocket of my fishing vest and and the bottom of the river for the entire time (save for nightly sessions reviewing the days catch and scenery).
I cannot speak to any use other than my own, but if you are looking for a small, rough & tumble, waterproof camera this exceeded my expectations in both quality of the pictures as well as durability. I highly recommend it.
