Worthless picture quality doesn't befit a "real" camera. A toy?? September 3, 2010 The Tech (Illinois) I recieved the black Optio W90 as a 25 year gift from my company. "Wow", I thought "it has some good reviews." Water resistant camera, lots of "features." Sure, I'll pick this camera over the Canon and Sony.
I'm sorry to say that the image quality of this camera is only slightly better than a toy. Well, actually it's not. I have, and do own, many still cameras from Canons, Nikons, Sonys, from Pro SLR's to inexpensive point and shoot. While most don't take pictures as good as my Canon 20D, they all do a realitively good job given proper lighting and careful use. I have really liked some of the Canon Sure Shots and some of the Sonys. No, I don't work for any camera companies. :)
Uou may think that I'm used to really high quality SLR camreas and that is a bias. Not in this case. I'm comparing the Pentax with similar point and shooters in the same quality/price range. That's apples to apples.
Simply put, I'm VERY DIS-SATISFIED with the W90.
Picure quality? Look at the lense. How many elements given that it's almost a surface-mount lense? It's also not much of a light collector! The pictures all are noisey and lack clarity - regardless of lighting and settings. Simply put, it's an embarrassment to Pentax. I've owned other Pentax cameras and I've seen them do MUCH better. The high pixel noise, horrible color balance (in almost any light), muddy colors and soft lense make for a rotten photographic experience.
Features? It's lacking some of the most common features found in modern point and shoot cameras - some basic manual control. There are a multitude of "modes" that try to make up for the lack of some simple manual conrol. Modes are fine, but give us some control over the camera if we want it. Instead of playing with "pet face detection" put some effort into proper noise reduction, a better image chip or a better lense! Why would I want to take a low quality, smudgy picture of my pet?
In the video mode, the lack of picture quality is less noticeable because the moving frames hide some of the detail. The video is not that great either. Again, there is much better out there in a point and shoot.
If I could get money back for this gift, I'd be first in line. Don't bother getting this camera. You will NOT be happy with the images it creates unless you are looking at them on the back of the camera or reduced in size to a small portion of a computer screen. Don't even try to look at it full screen. Sigh.
We've tossed this camera in the bottom of a dresser drawer never to be used unless it was an emergency! Sad.
If I could give it zero stars for picture quality, I would. It's got some nice "fun" features, but what's the point if the picture you are taking looks horrible.
Optio review September 1, 2010 Marcos Fioravanti This camera is perfect. Not only because you can use it underwater, but also because you can feel confident that it will last for long, and it is hard to broke it... water, humidity, dust will no damage it. Also great pics and easy operation. This is the second one that I buy; I bought my first Optio10 in 2005 which worked perfectly 4 years until somebody rub it to me during a trip.
Great Durability August 25, 2010 outdoorsman I took it on a vacation to Cancun and I am really rough on things. It was with me all week and it made it. Ski boats, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, fourwheeling in the jungle, and night life. I would highly recomend! The pics are not the best quality but a water proof camera for the price is unbeatable. Also it is only rated for 20' of water so scuba diving with it is not possable eather. But overall a great guys camera.

I received this camera as a Father's Day gift prior to our family vacation to Hawaii. Obviously, I wanted to use this camera to shoot some fish while snorkeling. Well, to cut to the chase, it lasted all of 5 minutes on our first time out on the reef before the screen began pixellating, then completely shorted out. The camera is toast and I am sorely disgruntled. I did not jostle it, get it in the sand, dive with it or otherwise contribute in any way to its early demise. So, don't waste your money if you are going to use this camera in the WATER! Waterproof used to mean just what it says but I guess it has multiple meanings these days. Maybe it would survive a mild waterfight with squirt guns but, then again, who knows? Multiple thumbs down on this produuct. It remains to be seen if I can get the money back.
