5 out of 5 stars Good value, small package - Takes nice pictures.   September 6, 2010

The Cannon Powershot A490 works well. If you are looking for a simple point and click this is it. The camera even beeps at you to let you know that your shot is in focus. There are additional features which can be used if you wish, such as time delayed, movies and zoom up to 13x.
The camera fits easily into a shirt pocket. The extra features are indicated by graphics on small buttons that are fairly easy to identify.
I found the included software a bit cumbersome, but if you take your time you can adapt to it. The camera itself does not have any internal picture capability - so you do need to purchase the card as well as the batteries to make the camera take the pictures. There is no case included. Reading the manual before taking pictures would be helpful.

3 out of 5 stars Slow Slow Slow   August 5, 2010
just me
I thought the quality was ok but it was so slow that I had to take it back. I would take a photo then wait wait wait while the screen says "busy". aaaaah!

4 out of 5 stars Good camera for a low price   July 27, 2010
jrbd (Colorado Springs)
I've had this camera for two weeks, and I'm almost completely satisfied.
Good:
Easy to use for basic point-and-shoot pictures and zooming
Quick to turn on
Picture quality is good

Not so good:
Several of our outdoor zoomed pictures had a noticable streak/lens flare if the camera was pointed in the same general direction as the sun.
As with most digital cameras, the instructions are skimpy and the features are indicated by cryptic little icons.
The screen seems fragile, although nothing has damaged it yet. Maybe not a problem.

Overall, not perfect, but quite worth the price.

3 out of 5 stars Well...   July 20, 2010

This camera takes GORGEOUS pictures, however, the battery life REALLY SUCKS!!! I bought the camera as a gift and my mom loves it, however, she says, "I have to carry about 50 batteries when I go out". That part of it is sad...however, the pictures come out amazing!!!

4 out of 5 stars Canon Powershot A490   July 19, 2010

So far, we're happy with this camera. It does not come with a card, so be prepared for that.
It is small and has a handy little carrying case; more lightweight than our previous Canons.
And the pictures have been fine.
