Customer Reviews: Warning - annoying problems! February 15, 2009 T. Johnson (Portland, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Love this camera EXCEPT for two huge things:
It takes forever between shots if the flash is going, we miss sooo many good shots because of this. I don't know if this is "normal" but I do know that this is "unacceptable"! The delay is often several seconds.
Also, it runs through batteries like there's no tomorrow if you use regular AA's, and the good NiMH ones aren't good enough either.
These are major pains. The camera otherwise is very good, solid, takes nice photos, etc. But missing so many shots and constantly having to replace the batteries means I'm looking for a new camera even though this one is still working. I regret this purchase.
Great camera from Sony, the best of the W-series September 26, 2007 Paul James Chatman (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1I0PQECJQ2OVI This is my video review of the Sony DSC-W7 7.2mp camera. Video was filmed in Standard Resolution instead of Fine. The video quality is great in both, but obviously better in Fine - the movies are just larger. The camera is great, but when using some modes it's better to have a tripod or really steady hands. But, using the Manual Programming Mode can eliminate these issues (the Programming Modes are pretty powerful, learn to use them). The colors are breathtaking, the videos are stunning. You will not regret this purchase. The slimmer models now seem, to me, to be more delicate than as rugged as this one - but still don't drop it. ;)
Excellent photo quality, very easy to use. Boxy look however June 2, 2007 Vijay Krishna (Rochester NY) We bought the DSC-W7 over a year ago. We have traveled extensively with it including Egypt, Canada, India and all over the US as well. The camera is boxy looking with no stylish profile to write home about. But the versatility in using the camera really is worth it - especially for an amateur.
The flash is very powerful.
The camera uses 2 AA batteries - so very compatible with all countries and in an emergency situation, one can always get AA batteries really easily.
A 1 GB memory card is useful as an accessory to buy - you can store over 600 photos...
Overall a very good buy
Also good memory card
A great compact camera. January 12, 2007 Habass (East Rutherford, NJ USA) We got this camera last summer and love it. The only negative things we noticed is if you're taking pictures inside without the flash it will be blurry if everyone does not stand really still, and red eye is frequent. We bought the Sony 2 gig microchip for it, which we highly recommend. Due to the 7 megapix you'll need it. But with this chip you'll never run out of space even if you take a number of short videos. The camera is rugged and compact. It isn't as flat as some of the newer slimline cameras. But, if you have larger hands, as most guys do, it is even more comfortable than the slim ones. With the 7 megapix the picture quality is excellent. My wife has a small HP photo printer, and the shots come out beautiful. It's a great camera for a reasonable price. We paid $275 for a new silver model, plus $52 for the chip.
